Bicolour (bicolor)

A bicolour is a flag divided into two colors, usually in two equal bands. Poland flies white over red, Ukraine blue over yellow, and Vatican City is a vertical bicolour of yellow and white. Bicolor is the US spelling.

Two colors is the minimum for most flags, and bicolours are about as simple as a flag gets. The catch is that simple combinations repeat. Indonesia and Monaco both use red over white, so a bicolour often needs a charge or an unusual pair of colors to stand out. NAVA's principles ask designs to be distinctive.

In the flag maker, pick the horizontal or vertical bicolour layout and click each half to recolor it. Try a diagonal split if you want something less common. The flag design ideas guide shows bicolours next to the tricolour and triband.
