Tricolour (tricolor)
A tricolour is a flag of three parallel bands, usually equal, in three different colors. The bands can run vertically, as on the flags of France and Ireland, or horizontally, as on the flag of the Netherlands. Tricolor is the US spelling.
Flag dictionaries separate the tricolour from the triband, which has three bands but only two colors, though the distinction is not always observed. A tricolour is one of the easiest layouts to recognize, and it suits NAVA's advice to keep to two or three basic colors.
The flag maker has horizontal and vertical tricolor layouts. Click each band to set its color, then add a charge to the middle band if you want one. The flag design ideas guide compares the tricolour with other layouts, and the flag colors meaning guide covers what the colors can stand for.
