Flag Proportion

Flag proportion, or aspect ratio, is the ratio of a flag's height to its length, written height first. A 2:3 flag is 2 units tall and 3 long. 2:3 is the most common ratio among national flags, followed by 1:2 and 3:5.

Some countries pick unusual values. The US federal standard is 10:19, Belgium uses 13:15, and Switzerland and Vatican City use 1:1. Proportion changes how a design looks, since a saltire or diagonal stripe gets steeper or flatter as the flag gets shorter or longer.

The flag maker has presets for 2:3, 1:2, 3:5, 10:19, 1:1, 4:5 and more. If you plan to print, pick the ratio of the physical size first, so a 3x5 ft flag uses 3:5. The flag ratios guide lists country ratios and pixel sizes, and what is the standard flag ratio gives the short answer.
